About this site

About Subtropical Islands

An independent guide site for the subtropical Atlantic — and a clear statement of how it works.

Subtropical Islands is an independent travel-guide site covering the islands of the subtropical Atlantic — Madeira, the Canary Islands and the Azores — with a sister page mapping subtropical islands worldwide. It exists to help travellers choose the right island, the right season and the right base.

How we research

Guides are built from official tourism and national-park sources, geographic and climate references, and operator information, and they are reviewed and refreshed periodically. We write about areas, seasons and types of stay — not invented experiences.

What we don’t do

No fake reviews, no invented ratings, no “best hotel” rankings we cannot stand behind, and no paid placements dressed up as advice. Where this site links to booking partners, the relationship is disclosed in the footer of every page: if you book through those links, the site may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That commission model — not sponsored content — is how the site is funded.

Corrections

Island information changes: trails close, ferries retime, parks adjust access. If you spot something out of date, tell us at contact.malvyn@gmail.com and we will fix it.
